A summary

look who i met!!

In May 2010, I started interning for photographer, Scott MacDonough

He is a fashion photographer and artist---not to mention an exceptional person.

I remembered to take pictures at some of the shoots, and events we went to, but obviously a lot of them I didn't.
Here's a little summary of things I got to do:

Luca Luca is a huge fashion designer--he is the current photographer. So, whenever their new line debuts, he is responsible for shooting the new looks. We went to a studio in Manhattan and shot the Luca Luca Summer Resort 2011 Collection. It can be seen at style.com
Some pictures can be seen from this shoot below.

One, if not the, favorite shoot we went on was for Soludos. Every shot and image on that site, Scott took and I was there! We spent 3 days out near the Hamptons and lived the life. It was a lot of work and very long days, but it was so beautiful and such a learning experience that I didn't mind. I met some extraordinary people on that project.

Scott's partner is a stylist, Morgan. She does all the clothes and appearance stuff for the photos. When I go to work for them, I usually assist Scott. Whether it be with setting up his camera equipment, lighting, computer, etc. Sometimes, if the work load is heavy, I get to assist Morgan too. She is constantly piecing clothes and shoes and jewelry. If there is a lot of stuff, I help her organize, steam, rack, unpack, etc. I'm just an extra set of hands really.

Fashion Week 2011 rolled around in September. I got to attend the Charlotte Ronson show with some friends. I could not believe I was actually in attendance at the Mercedes Benz New York Fashion Week. It was so much to take in!
The next day was the Luca Luca show. Because Scott works for them, we had to head in hours before the show to help out backstage. Me? Backstage at a fashion show? Whoa.
That was such a rush, so so so much fun.

After fashion week slowed down, Scott took on more online catalog projects. He shot the looks for clothing companies that wanted to show their clothes for their online store. My favorite was Inhabit.

For the past 2 months, it's been a lot of planning for the new year. We schedule a lot! Lots of planning, meetings, bookings, etc
For example:
a photo shoot entails a lot of things. first, we need a studio. So, we have to set a budget from our client, and book a studio space that is cheap enough. We usually want something between $600-$1200 for the day. Then, we need a model. I contact several different agencies and ask for models for a certain price range. They send me portfolios, Scott decides who is interesting, and then we schedule "go-sees." That is when all the models come in at the same day, usually a full afternoon, a few at a time, and do a 1 minute shoot with polaroids. It's just to see how they look in real life, how they move, and how they connect with Scott and his camera. from there, we decide on a girl, and further book.

The day of the shoot, the client, the model, the stylist, the photographer, the videographer, the make up artist, the hair stylist, and other interns show up. It takes 2 hours to set up, it's usually a full 8-10 hours of shooting, depending on how many looks need to be shot, and then its closing time. Then, after that--its the design stuff! Lots of editing on the computer. Working with Aperture, Photoshop, and most recently because of me--InDesign.

We've been doing solo stuff recently, for Scott's personal portfolio. So, personal sculptures, pictures, and videos he likes to create, and that is really fun because it's very free and open and not for anyone else.

These past 6 months have been a whirlwind and I wouldn't change a thing. It is the best experience I've ever had working with someone, and I can't wait to see what the next 6 months has to offer!

Inhabit

Today, Scott shot for Inhabit's new website.
Inhabit is a cashmere sweater clothing line, based in NY.
Their new Fall collection was just made, so all 200 looks had to be modeled and photographed to be posted online for online shopping.
That was today.
Starting at 8 AM, go to the studio, set up the camera, lights, computer; set up the clothes, steam the clothes; hair and make-up for the models.
It's fast and hard work, but....
SO worth it.
The day ends around 7 PM. Phew. Time for HW...

MBFW

I can't believe I worked MBFW.
It's still not totally sunk in.
Working for Scott is the best job I've ever had. Ever.

I get school credit, no money. But, I could care less. Because I love working for him; it doesn't even feel like work. I get to go to fashion shows, fashion shoots, edit the pictures, organize bookings, meet designers, models, and other artists, and learn a ton about photography.

Here's some pictures of back stage at the Luca Luca S/S 2011 Fashion Show in NYC (Lincoln Center) in Sept 2010.
Great memories!
